President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the launch of INS Vindhyagiri:

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the launch of INS Vindhyagiri, an advanced stealth frigate, at the GRSE facility situated on the banks of the River Hooghly in Kolkata. Following its launch, INS Vindhyagiri will join its two sister ships at the outfitting jetty in GRSE, where it will undergo further activities and equipment trials in preparation for delivery and commissioning. These Project 17A Frigates represent an evolution from the earlier Project 17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates, featuring enhanced stealth capabilities, advanced weaponry, sensors, and platform management systems.

Currently, seven Project 17A Frigates are in various stages of construction at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and GRSE. Defence Ministry officials highlight that the introduction of INS Vindhyagiri will bolster India’s defense industrial foundation, diminishing the nation’s reliance on foreign suppliers and promoting self-sufficiency in defense manufacturing. This achievement aligns with the ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative of the Narendra Modi-led government, as over 75 percent of the Project 17A orders have been entrusted to indigenous firms, including MSMEs and ancillary industries.

Notably, this launch signifies the third and final stealth frigate built by the Kolkata-based shipyard under the project. The cutting-edge vessel will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and will undergo rigorous testing before being handed over to the Indian Navy for official commissioning.

President Droupadi Murmu, in her address during the event, underscored the significance of INS Vindhyagiri and expressed hope that the vessel would draw strength from the namesake mountains as it navigates the waters of the Hooghly River, embodying unwavering determination and upholding cherished read more please find link:
