The Central Government is continuously adding generic in the country. In this episode, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has made it clear that doctors from outside should prescribe only generic medicines on the patient’s prescription instead of expensive medicines. NMC clearly says that if the doctors do not follow these instructions, then the government will take strict action against them.

In the ‘Professional Conduct of Registered Medical Practitioner Regulation’ released on August 2, the National Medical Commission has made it clear that instead of writing branded generic medicines, doctors should write the name of patients’ prescription generic medication.

The commission has made it clear that the license of doctors who do not follow the new rules can also be suspended for some time. The commission says that by doing so, there will be a reduction in the expenditure on treatment.

NMC further says that generic medication are 30 to 80 percent cheaper than branded medicines. This will reduce the expenditure on medicines of the people. The NMC says that people in the country spend a major portion of their earnings on health, with more money being spent on medicines. In this case, writing generic medicine will reduce it.
