Residents of Uttarkashi were shaken awake once again as mild tremors rattled the region at approximately 8:35 AM on Monday morning. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the intensity of the earthquake at 3.0 on the Richter scale. Thankfully, no casualties or damages have been reported so far.

Recent Earthquakes in Uttarkashi

  • On September 25, 2023, at approximately 8:35 AM, Uttarkashi experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or damages.
  • On September 11, 2023, mild tremors were felt in the Tehsil areas of Purola, Barkot, and Mori, with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale. No significant consequences were reported.
  • On August 29, 2023, earthquake tremors were felt in the late evening, causing some residents to temporarily evacuate their homes. No significant incidents were reported.

This isn’t the first time the district has experienced such an event. On September 11, similar tremors were felt in the Tehsil areas of Purola, Barkot, and Mori, with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale. Fortunately, there were no major consequences, and life returned to normal.

Looking back to August 29, 2023, the region also experienced an earthquake scare. Residents felt tremors in the late evening, causing some to temporarily leave their homes in fear. Once again, no significant incidents were reported, leaving the community unscathed.

District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal assured the public that there have been no losses of life or livestock due to these recent events. Information has been gathered from all Tehsil police stations, confirming the absence of casualties or significant damage.
